First Listen: Sheléa and Michael Lington shine on a holiday classic

Saxman extraordinaire Michael Lington has been a favorite of ours for a few years now. His deft blending of contemporary jazz and R&B has created a pile of strong albums, and memorable singles.

And Copenhagen-born, Los Angeles-based artist is readying the release of his first holiday album, A Foreign Affair Christmas, coming November 8.  The collection features Latin, Jazz, Caribbean, R&B and Danish flavors of classic holiday songs with special guests Philippe Saisse, Vince Gill, Russ Freeman, Chris Standring and Dave Koz.

One track that stands out to us is a collaboration with the always graceful Sheléa, an artist we love but who we don’t hear often enough for our taste. Michael tells us, "I had wanted to work with Sheléa for a while and was looking for a great song and project for us to collaborate on. During the song selection for the Christmas album, I knew I wanted to have a classic Christmas ballad on there and when the arrangement for ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ came together, I knew that this would be a perfect fit. Sheléa came to my studio one afternoon and cut one great take after another, it was such a pleasure to finally get to work with her!"

We agree with all that and more. Check out “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” and welcome these two stars back to Music Spot Live!
